As we enter September, we look forward to several significant events at UCIR. September 14, brings Unity World Day of Prayer. This year’s theme, “Peace in the Midst,” includes the subtitle “I am peace in the midst of all matters!” When I think of the breadth of that statement I realize the importance of keeping myself centered in peace. Each day as I engage in my spiritual practices, I experience calmness. When I can hold that calmness, I become peace in the midst of all matters. With commitment to my spiritual work, when I find myself in a situation where calmness and peace allude me, I breathe and quickly return to my center.
We have a lovely World Day of Prayer planned at UCIR. At noon we will open with a short prayer service, move into meditation and the prayer vigil, and close the day with a short service. Listening to sacred music, coloring mandalas, journaling, praying for countries of the world and for those individuals in our prayer basket and box are some of the activities available for guiding you into the experience of peace. Simply sitting in the silence can be very nurturing and healing. Please join us on September 14 as we experience “Peace in the Midst.”
On the evening of September 14, Dr. Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet, will join us for a lecture and music on “How We Can Live Our Prayers for Peace.” We look forward to welcoming Dr. Tuttle for this enlightening event.
September 24 brings our long-awaited chocolate and wine party at The Grape Escape in downtown Redding next to the Cascade Theatre. Tastings of four different wines will be offered and pared with Jeri Roitman’s delicious chocolates matched to each wine. Glasses or bottles of wine will be available for purchase outside of the $20.00 ticket price. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Please join us for an afternoon of comradeship with Unity friends and guests. This fundraiser goes for support of UCIR’s outreach and music programs.
In closing, I offer a Sufi prayer for peace.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, which is perfect and everlasting…
…that our souls may radiate peace.
…that we may think, act, and speak harmoniously.
…that we may be contented and thankful for Thy bountiful gifts.
…that amidst our world strife, we many enjoy Thy bliss.
…that we may endure all, tolerate all in the thought of Thy grace and mercy.
…that our lives may become a divine vision, and in Thy light all darkness may vanish.
…that we, Thy children on earth, may all unite in one family.
Please join us at our Sunday services and at our September events as we do our part to bring peace into our lives and the world.
